A garden favourite for many years, Celosia are some of the brightest flowers you can grow! They fairly sizzle with colour and they are easy to grow too! Celosia love heat and sun but they also like to be regularly watered though, so they are quite a plant-and-forget kind of plant. But with a little care they will reward you with gorgeous bright flowers all summer long.

Celosia belongs to the Amaranthaceae family and is native to tropical regions.

Celosia thrives in well-draining soil with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0. Before planting, prepare the soil by removing any weeds and incorporating organic matter such as compost or aged manure to improve fertility and drainage. It can also be planted in containers.

Celosia thrives in full sun, so choose a location in your garden that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. The ideal temperature range for celosia growth is between 70°F and 85°F (21°C and 29°C).

Celosia requires regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist. However, be careful not to overwater, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot. Water the plants at the base, avoiding wetting the foliage, to prevent fungal diseases.

Feed your celosia plants with a balanced fertilizer every 2-3 weeks to promote healthy growth and abundant flowering. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer packaging for the correct dosage. Alternatively, 3-4 month slow release fertilizer can be mixed into the soil mix when planting.

Celosia is generally resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for common garden pests such as aphids and spider mites. If necessary, treat the plants with organic insecticides.
