Citronella

Citronella plants are most commonly known for their ability to repel mosquitoes.  The strong lemony fragrance emitted by the plant masks the scents that attract mosquitoes, making it less likely for them to land on you or your guests. The scent is released when the plant is brushed or touched so place it close to where you want to sit and close enough that you can easily ruffle its leaves.

Although Citronella is the best known geranium to ward off mosquitoes, did you know that there are tons of other scented geraniums that do just as well? Some of our favourites actually smell like roses! Check out our selection of scented geraniums at the greenhouse.

A member of the geranium family, citronella plants  are easy to grow. They do best in full sun and drier conditions. Citronella can be grown in containers or directly in the ground, making them suitable for gardens of all sizes.
