General Information:
Heliotrope, scientifically known as Heliotropium arborescens, has an enchanting sweet fragrance that smells like vanilla and beautiful clusters of flowers. It is a perfect plant for containers and pots.
Heliotrope needs at least 6 hours of sunlight each day but it prefers morning sun rather than the hotter afternoon sun. It will be much happier if you put it somewhere that is protected from afternoon sun.
Heliotrope prefers well-draining soil with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. Before planting, enrich the soil with organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure to improve its fertility and drainage. This will create an ideal environment for the roots to establish and grow. It is very suitable for planting in containers as well.
Heliotrope requires regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist. However, avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Water the plant deeply once or twice a week, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Mulching around the base of the plant can help retain moisture and suppress weed growth.
Feed your heliotrope plant with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer once a month during the growing season. This will provide the necessary nutrients for healthy growth and abundant flowering. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates and methods.
Heliotrope is generally resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for common garden pests such as aphids and spider mites. If necessary, treat the infestation with organic insecticides or insecticidal soaps, following the instructions on the product label.
