Container petunias are grown by nearly every gardener because they are just so darn beautiful. They are easy to grow and are stunningly beautiful. There are so many colours and varieties that you can always find one that will suit your garden.
Because there are so many kinds some people feel a little lost when shopping for petunias. But don't worry, we are here to help.
In general, modern container petunias have been bred to not need deadheading, unlike their bedding style siblings which would need constant deadheading to look great in a container. You can easily tell bedding petunias from container petunias in our greenhouse because we offer bedding petunias in six packs, and container petunias come in individual pots.
If you are looking for a petunia that trails like crazy then you are looking for either a Wave or a Supertunia.
Classic Waves are one of the best known trailing petunias. This series includes the super well known purple colour which can be seen almost everywhere during the summer. Classic Waves are known for their low height and long trailing length as well as their wall to wall blooms.
Tidal Waves have the same bloom power and trailing habit as Classic Waves but they go up 8 - 10 inches first and then head down. This makes an even bigger ball of blooms.
Easy Waves are halfway between Classic and Tidal. They go up a few inches and then down.
Supertunia Vista is another super popular category. This series is home to Bubblegum, one of our most requested petunia. Often people don't even know that Bubblegum is a Supertunia, they just know its called Bubblegum. These petunias are like Tidal Waves. They have huge impact and are unstoppable bloomers. They take the summer heat better than waves do and are top performers in the landscape and garden. Vista Silverberry is one of our personal favourites.
After these powerhouses of container petunias there are tons of trailing petunias that fill out a container and trail over the edges but don't get huge like the Waves and Vistas. These are perfect when you want to make mixed containers with other plants. These include Potunia, Headliner, Starlette, Surprise.
